Introducing RAW Photo Uploads

Picstome now supports full RAW photo uploads, making it easier to preserve maximum image quality while still enjoying a fast, beautiful web gallery experience. This update is designed for photographers who want the best of both worlds: original RAWs safely stored, and optimized JPEGs ready to share and view online.

What RAW support means

Picstome can now accept RAW files from many major camera brands and process them automatically into web‑friendly JPEGs for your galleries. The RAW originals are kept (when enabled) for downloading and archiving, while the generated JPEGs are used for previews, grids, and shared links.

How RAW uploads are processed

When you upload a RAW file, Picstome automatically extracts the best possible image from inside the file, preferring the full‑resolution embedded JPEG, then falling back to a preview or thumbnail if needed. That extracted image is then resized and optimized according to your gallery settings, or kept at original size if you choose the “Keep Original Size” option.

Smart handling of RAW + JPG

If you upload both RAW and JPG versions of the same photo, Picstome uses smart logic to avoid duplicates and wasted space. With “Keep Original Size” off, the JPG is processed and the RAW is skipped; with it on, the RAW takes priority and the JPG is skipped, ensuring you always favor the format that matches your workflow.

Storage and download options

RAW files are stored in their original format for download and count toward your storage limits when “Keep Original Size” is enabled, while derived JPEGs for web viewing do not add extra storage cost. For downloads, you can choose JPG or RAW per photo, and when exporting a full gallery as a ZIP, Picstome includes both formats (when available) with clear, format‑specific filenames.

Why photographers will love it

This flow lets you safely archive RAWs in Picstome while sharing fast‑loading galleries that look great on any device. Whether you deliver only JPEGs to clients or want to keep RAWs available for serious post‑production later, Picstome adapts to your preferences without adding complexity to your upload process.
